{"id":17905,"date":"2020-05-19T17:37:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-19T15:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=17905"},"modified":"2020-06-10T17:38:56","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T15:38:56","slug":"publication-of-the-2019-annual-report-on-food-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/publication-of-the-2019-annual-report-on-food-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Publication of the 2019 Annual Report on Food Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"hover_box\"><div class=\"hover_box_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"scale-with-grid visible_photo\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/huiles.png\" alt=\"Publication of the 2019 Annual Report on Food Fraud\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"scale-with-grid hidden_photo\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/actu_publication-rasff-2016_02.jpg\" alt=\"Publication of the 2019 Annual Report on Food Fraud\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Food Fraud Network has just published its <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/food\/sites\/food\/files\/safety\/docs\/ff_ffn_annual-report_2019.pdf\">2019 annual report<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fraudulent\nactivities impacting the food chain can pose a risk to the consumer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number\nof requests for administrative assistance on suspicion of food fraud increased\nfrom 234 in 2018 to 292 in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is\nthe number of suspected fraud by type of product:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Oils\nand fats: 44, with olive oil being the most notified.<\/li><li>Fish\nand fish products: 42<\/li><li>Meat\nand meat products (excluding poultry): 38<\/li><li>Fruits\nand Vegetables: 28<\/li><li>Poultry\nand poultry products: 16<\/li><li>Herbs and Spices : 12<\/li><li>Cereals\nand derivatives: 11<\/li><li>Alcoholic\nbeverages: 10<\/li><li>Nuts,\nseeds and derived products: 10<\/li><li>Other products : 12<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Five types\nof non-conformities were listed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>47%\nconcerning erroneous labelling with, in particular, the mention BIO on products\nwith pesticide residues.<\/li><li>20%\nconcerning replacement \/ dilution \/ addition \/ withdrawal in the product: meat\nproducts in which beef has been replaced by pork or horse, but also olive\nleaves in oregano, saffron cut with stamen fibres of another species and the\npresence of cheap rice in basmati rice.<\/li><li>16%\non the treatment and\/or process not approved: Unauthorised pesticides, tuna\ntreated with nitrite or carbon monoxide used to improve the colour of the\nproduct.<\/li><li>15% on non-conformities on documents: absence or\nfalsification of documents<\/li><li>2%\non the violation of intellectual property rights: frauds on Geographical\nIndications, PDO, PGI often on wines or olive oil.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Adulteration\nis therefore the second most common cause of fraud with 20% of cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phytocontrol\ncan bring you solutions to authenticate your products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nlaboratory is able to offer 3 types of analyses performed using NGS technology:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Meat\nPacks (more than 6000 species)<\/li><li>Fish\nPacks (more than 6000 species)<\/li><li>Plant\nPacks (more than 5000 species)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These packs\nare available individually or combined according to your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ninnovative technology allows you to prove the authenticity of the species\npresent in your products with a much more exhaustive coverage than traditional\nmethods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Food Fraud Network has just published its 2019 annual report.
