{"id":24151,"date":"2021-09-24T15:57:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-24T13:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=24151"},"modified":"2021-10-27T15:59:54","modified_gmt":"2021-10-27T13:59:54","slug":"food-fraud-report-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/food-fraud-report-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Food Fraud report 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"hover_box\"><div class=\"hover_box_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"scale-with-grid visible_photo\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/huiles.png\" alt=\"Food Fraud report 2020\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"scale-with-grid hidden_photo\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/actu_publication-rasff-2016_02.jpg\" alt=\"Food Fraud report 2020\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Food Fraud Network has published its 2020 annual report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fraudulent activities affecting the food chain can pose a risk to the consumer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of requests for administrative assistance for suspected food fraud increased from 292 in 2019 to 349 in 2020, an increase of 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is the number of suspected frauds by type of product:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Oils and fats: 51 (olive oil was the most notified).<\/li><li>Fish and fish products: 34 (illegal treatments: addition of undeclared water, nitrates, carbon monoxide)<\/li><li>Poultry and poultry products: 28<\/li><li>Honey and royal jelly: 25<\/li><li>Meat and meat products (excluding poultry): 25<\/li><li>Food supplements, enriched foods, dietetic foods: 22<\/li><li>Fruit and vegetables: 21<\/li><li>Wines and alcoholic beverages: 12<\/li><li>Plant protection products: 11<\/li><li>Cephalopods, crustaceans and derived products: 10<\/li><li>Herbs and spices: 9<\/li><li>Milk and dairy products: 8<\/li><li>Other products: 43<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Five types of non-compliance were listed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>37% concern mislabelling, for example when non-extra virgin olive oil is presented as extra virgin.<\/li><li>25% concern falsification of documents or traceability problems.<\/li><li>21% concern substitution\/dilution\/addition\/removal in the product: this refers to the process of mixing or replacing a high value ingredient with a low value one, such as watering down wine.<\/li><li>13% on unapproved treatment and\/or process: tuna treated with nitrite.<\/li><li>4% on infringement of intellectual property rights: this refers to counterfeit products.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Adulteration is the third most common cause of fraud with 21% of cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phytocontrol can provide you with solutions to authenticate your products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The laboratory is able to offer 3 types of analysis using NGS technology:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Meat packs (more than 6000 species)<\/li><li>Fish packs (more than 6000 species)<\/li><li>Plant packs (over 5000 species)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These packs are available individually or combined according to your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This innovative technology allows you to prove the authenticity of the species present in your products with a much more exhaustive coverage than traditional methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phytocontrol&#8217;s experts can assist you with these issues related to fraud and food safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Need technical, regulatory and pricing information?
