{"id":30201,"date":"2023-07-13T09:32:54","date_gmt":"2023-07-13T07:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=30201"},"modified":"2023-10-02T09:33:39","modified_gmt":"2023-10-02T07:33:39","slug":"new-smls-for-5-phthalates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/new-smls-for-5-phthalates\/","title":{"rendered":"New SMLs for 5 phthalates"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"hover_box\"><div class=\"hover_box_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"scale-with-grid visible_photo\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Plastiques.png\" alt=\"New SMLs for 5 phthalates\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"scale-with-grid hidden_photo\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/actu_publication-rasff-2016_02.jpg\" alt=\"New SMLs for 5 phthalates\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32023R1442&amp;qid=1689149409450\"><strong>EU regulation 2023\/1442<\/strong><\/a> has just amended EU regulation 10\/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It modifies the SMLs (Specific Migration Limits) for the following 5 phthalates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>DBP (Dibutyl phthalate)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>BBP (Benzyl butyl phthalate)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DEHP (Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DINP (Diisononylphthalat)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>DIDP (Di-isodecyl phthalate)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>DBP and DEHP can be used as plasticizers in reusable materials and objects in contact with <strong>non-fatty foodstuffs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BBP, DiNP and DiDP may be used as plasticizers in reusable materials and articles and as plasticizers in single-use materials and articles in contact with <strong>non-fatty foodstuffs<\/strong>, with the exception of infant formula and follow-on formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SMLs of these 5 phthalates were reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DBP <\/strong>SML increased from 0.3 mg\/kg to <strong>0.12 mg\/kg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SML for <strong>DEHP is <\/strong>reduced from 1.5 mg\/kg <strong>to 0.6 mg\/kg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BBP<\/strong>&#8216;s SML is reduced from 30 mg\/kg to <strong>6 mg\/kg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SML for the sum of <strong>DiNP <\/strong>and <strong>DiDP <\/strong>rises from 9 mg\/kg to <strong>1.8 mg\/kg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plastic materials and articles complying with the provisions of regulation (EU) no. 10\/2011 applicable before 01\/08\/23, and placed on the market for the first time before 01\/02\/2025, may remain on the market until stocks are exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulations come into force on <strong>August 1, 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that Phytocontrol laboratory offers analysis of these phthalates under COFRAC accreditation.
