{"id":522206,"date":"2026-06-30T15:33:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T13:33:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=522206"},"modified":"2026-06-30T15:33:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T13:33:20","slug":"nickel-maximum-levels-in-cereals-applicable-from-1-july-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/en\/regulatory-watch\/nickel-maximum-levels-in-cereals-applicable-from-1-july-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Nickel: maximum levels in cereals applicable from 1 July 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"hover_box\"><div class=\"hover_box_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"scale-with-grid visible_photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/cereales.png\" alt=\"cereales\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"scale-with-grid hidden_photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/actu_publication-rasff-2016_02.jpg\" alt=\"drapeau_ue\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\"\/><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, the European Commission published <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/FR\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32024R1987&amp;qid=1722953898936\">Regulation (EU) 2024\/1987 amending Regulation (EU) 2023\/915<\/a> as regards the maximum levels of nickel in certain foodstuffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maximum levels have been set for the following categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nuts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vegetables<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seaweed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oilseeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cereals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cocoa and chocolate products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Infant food<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruit juices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The maximum levels for nuts, vegetables, seaweed, oilseeds, cocoa and chocolate products, infant food and fruit juices have been in force since 1 July 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On 1 July 2026<\/strong>, the following limits for cereals will come into force:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1.5 mg\/kg for durum wheat and rice (excluding husked rice)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 mg\/kg for husked rice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 mg\/kg for pseudo-cereals and millet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5 mg\/kg for oats<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>0.80 mg\/kg for other cereals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that your Phytocontrol laboratory can assist you with testing for nickel and other metals in foodstuffs under COFRAC accreditation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can view our COFRAC Technical Annex No. 1-1904, available in your client area or on the COFRAC website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Need technical, regulatory or pricing information?
