We informed you in June 2019: EU Regulation 2019/989 signed the non-renewal of the approval of the active substance Chlorpropham.
This active ingredient is used in plant protection products as a sprout inhibitor, mainly on potatoes.
On June 18, 2017, EFSA established that chlorpropham and its main metabolite, 3-chloroaniline, expose the consumer to acute and chronic dietary risks.
The European regulation had set a date for the withdrawal of authorizations for plant protection products containing chlorpropham no later than January 8, 2020 and a grace period granted to member states set at October 8, 2020.
France withdrew the marketing authorizations of commercial solutions containing Chlorpropham as of January 8, 2020 with a distribution deadline set for July 8, 2020 and an end of use date set for August 8, 2020.
The use of chlorpropham is therefore no longer authorized on French crops since August 8, 2020.
Other plant protection products based on 1,4-Dimethylnaphthalene and mint oil have replaced Chlorpropham.
The current MRL on Potatoes remains at 10mg/kg until new MRLs are voted by the European Commission.
