A revision of the alert management guide was published in 2023.
Annex XVIII of this guide addresses analytical self-checks in the context of alert management, in particular the reading of results by the operator.
For pesticides, in the event of MRLs being exceeded and in order to assess compliance, a measurement uncertainty of 50% should be applied to the raw result, except in the following cases:
- The substance is classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic category 1 (CMR-1) or likely to be so.
- The substance does not have a toxicological reference value (ARfD) published by EFSA. However, measurement uncertainty is applicable to substances for which the ARfD is noted as ‘not applicable’ due to the absence of risk.
- The toxicological risk assessment for exceeding the MRL concludes that there is a risk to the consumer.
